Finding a location for a 122 meter slackline in Warsaw

Hey Slackliners!

alongside the POLISH SLACKLINE OPEN 2007 some slackliners from USA, UK and Germany are planning to set up a 400 foot (122 meters) slackline. We are seaching for an adequate place in Warsaw to set up a line of that size and would like to ask local slackliners to give us a hint.

It would be important to not get busted by the police. Do we have to announce somewhere?

Also it would be nice to have
- a soft dint between the trees.
- trees around to protect from winds
- soft ground (gras) to jump down
- many nice people around Wink

We are looking foreward to to meet you polish slackliners!!

I'll try and start a brainstorm on that one with the guys here. I'll let you know for sure! Just, what would be the height appropriate for this lenght of tape?

You also have to consider the fact that it's the middle of winter here, and by winter I mean snow, temperatures below 0 and stuff like that...

Nada9 I must be there - I will be very happy if I could try your big line!! I think police will not do the problems - I'm slacklining for about a year in park in Wrocław and I didn't have troubles with police - in Wrocław they're very friendly and interested in slackline Wink

I don't know how is in Warsaw but i think it will be good Very Happy

hi Andreas,

police in warsaw is rather OK. they asked me once to give them my documents, and checked it by radio (it was late in the evening, maybe that was the reason). they didn't know what's going on, and what are we doing, are we some kind of gipsys, or circus dancers... hehe

but for sure you should announce this kind activity at city warrden office (straz miejska)

you could also think about football field. typical one should have dimensions just like you want. (opposite corners, i mean).

my propositions:

pole mokotowskie - city park
a few big trees in equal distance (100 up to 140 meters)

cypel czerniakowski - old sailing and scouting center (nice place, oldschool ;-)
found there only one interesting spot with two trees, distance ca 90 meters. but twas very short look. can look further.

I read your latest post on slackline.com about the "old stadium". It's called "Stadium Dziesięciolecia"... probably the biggest and crappiest market in Europe... but it doesn't matter. It's private property and no one will let you organize anything there... just forget it

And yes, the area from the first picture is a great, grassy park, where we usually set up our lines after work (in those warmer seasons...). It was the first place that came to my mind when I read about the 400ft slack idea.

I don't want to lay the thing out to you myslef bcause it's not my business, so I think you should address Jasiu directly, as some things have seriously changed about the gig on 3rd March... I don't know why he didn't mention it on slackline.com yet, although I strongly suggested he did that... There seems to be a problem with sponsorship, but ask Jasiu yourself. Confused

Pole Mokotowskie seems to be great for longlining. I found some distences that would almost exactly match the 400 ft (122 meters).

I will be there on friday from 12 am to do a test rigging and some training for sunday. it would be awesome if one (or some) of you guys could join me! (help with the rigging, explain to the police, etc.)

Hi Nada!

I'm down with flu and a bit of some lung infection at the moment but I'm quite desperate and I'd like to get there on Friday.

The only thing you have to consider about the spot in Pole Mokotowskie is the thickness of trees there. Although some of them look quite promising from space, they might be quite thin at the bottom Wink

I'm not sure but I think that Nissan is going to rent us two cars which could be used for rigging the big line. If these would be some nice Patrol pickups, this could work out Smile

I think Kudłaty has the details. Actually, he's comig to Warsaw today to shoot some video material for Nissan Very Happy

I am comeing to warsaw on thursday. I'm planning to meet with damien in the evening. Do you have a suggestion for a place to meet/have a beer/ see some nice people?!

depends where do you live in warsaw...
downtown or rather suburbs, praga maybe (on the right bank of the river)?

It took Damian about 10 minutes to walk the whole line in FIRST ATTEMPT!
Jon, the incredible footbag guys from Germany and Kudłaty also gave it a try and did really well too but Damian remains the only one to actually walk the whole 123,5 meters. He and Jon should contact you in about two days. Please PM me your email and I'll try and send you some first photos and short videos I shot this weekend.
